A clever children’s bookshelf

I’m in the process of creating a “reading” room for my kids, and my friend Kelly pointed me to this site, and I thought making a children’s bookshelf out of a rain gutter sounded GREAT.

Here’s the before and after picture of the wall! (I decided to paint it blue also.)

So, with the help of my cute hubby Dan, we made the shelves. (OK….let’s be honest HE made the shelves). šŸ™‚

Go to this link:

for detailed instructions.

I thought it was a great way to display the books to entice the kids to want to actually read them since the books face outward.

FYI:
This project cost approx. $30.00
$6.99 for one 10 foot vinyl rain gutter (not a metal one to avoid sharp edges)
$12.00 for six of the plastic end pieces ($2.00 each)
$9.00 for six plastic brackets to hook them to the wall ($1.50 each)

We got all our supplies at Lowes. Then we cut the rain gutter into three pieces, capped the ends with the end pieces, and hung them on the wall.

I thought this project turned out great. Do you?

  1. Holy crap, did you just do this today!? I was just talking to you about this earlier, I can't believe it's finished already! That was fast, and it turned out way cute! I think you need to convince Dan to let us paint our houses so I can have cute walls too! Haha!

  2. You were saying earlier that it was going to be your Dr. Seuss reading area, you could totally get a big wall decal to add to the area. Wouldn't that be cute?

  3. This is such a space saver too! My son's room is ridiculously tiny & this would totally help with that! Love your ideas!

  4. Hi. I just grabbed your button! šŸ™‚ I am excited to try some of these things!..if I dare. I have kitchen cabinets that are in desperate need of a face lift! Although I mentioned "paint" and I think my husband fruited a little. lol And I just bought a kitchen table to do SOMETHING to…just not sure what.:-) I'll send you pictures if I don't end up wrecking them. lol

  5. You are simply one amazing Lady! I love all of these ideas, You have motivated me and I can't wait to get started. Also I think your girl's names are adorable. My daughters name is Brooklyn šŸ™‚
