Jill’s kitchen Make Over….Free Collage #3

Here is #3 of the free consults we gave away .. Jill’s Kitchen.

Jill came to us with a $150 dollar budget. She was looking for a way to customise her kitchen cabinets and her banister while leaving the red color on the  walls. She also wanted some help with her windows and what to hang on them. When I first saw her pictures I instantly had 2 visions and decided to share both of them with her. So here is Jill’s Kitchen before…

and here is her banister..

So the first option we gave her was to paint the cabinets creme with a glaze over the top (like the cabinets in the kitchen up-date post) We threw in some new hard ware, some curtains for the kitchen. The banister was to be painted like the cabinets with creme colored paint and a glaze over the top. We didn’t quite know how to Photo Shop all this in to her photo so she just got a collage with pictures… Sorry Jill! The finished result of vision # uno looks like this…
The next option was to apply just the glaze to her cabinets. Giving it a more custom look with out all the work of painting it. We once again added in new hardware and curtains for the kitchen. We then gave her 2 options for her banister.. the first using the glaze and applying it to the banister giving her the same look as the cabinets. The 2nd option that put her a little over her budget but totally changing the look was to replace her exsisting spindles with wrought iron spindles. We thought that with the black decorations she had it would tie in nicely with the black spindles…giving it a little something extra. So here is the collage for the last option…

We got an e-mail from Jill telling us that she chose to go with the last option and that she would send us pictures when the make- over was finished…We are holding you too that Jill!!
So just a quick question…Brooke and I have been talking about doing a post showing you all the different ways you could re-finish your cabinets…We would buy cabinet faces and show you the finished result along with how we did it… We would like to know if this is a post you all would be interested in.. it will be  alot of work!! So if lot’s of people like this idea for a post we will spend the time to make it happen..if not we won’t 😉 So leave a comment if that is a post you would like to see in the near future…

  2. Hey girls, I actually have a bunch of darling cabinet doors that my brother in law fished out of the TRASH!! (he worked for a cabinet company and they threw away the imperfect or messed up doors) They are awesome! I hung on to them because I wanted to figure out something cute to do with them. If you are interested in getting them from me let me know! PS Tell this "Jill" person she REALLY should have cleaned her kitchen a little better before sending you the photo! lol

  10. Just found your site and LOVE it!! We just bought and moved into a 30-year old house twice the size of the rental we were in. Now I am trying to furnish and decorate it on a serious budget. I can't wait to try some of the ideas on your site! I don't really care for the honey oak cabinets in my kitchen, but definitely can't afford to replace them. I would love to see a post about redoing kitchen cabinets! Thanks! Beth

  11. Just found you guys a few weeks ago and getting ready to move into a fixer upper. 1st on the list is the kitchen and stair railings. I would love a post on the various ways to refinish cabinetry. I've found your tutorials very descriptive, readable and inspiring thus far. Keep up the great work!

  12. I just found your blog and I love it! I seriously am wanting to redo my cabinets in my kitchen and need some major help. Anything you can help with would be greatly appreciated. The other thing I need help with is backsplashes. I have an UGLY yellow (we're talkin' 60's yellow) backsplash and it needs to go!!!

  13. I love this Glazed Cabinet look. Would you please do a tutorial on how to get this look? Do you just do the doors? Do you have to sand it down first?

I've been looking for a little something, just like Jill. My kitchen looks an awful lot like hers with black countertops and a red accent wall. My cupboards just look blah and I want to spruce it up but don't know where to start.

  14. I have 1954 cabinets and I must paint them. I am anxious to see options! Can't wait to see your ideas!!

  15. Yes, I would definitely love to see more ideas and ways to update cabinets! I just glazed my cabinets in our basement kitchen and will be starting on our main kitchen soon.
