Backless bar stool

Do you have a bar? Have you considered using a backless bar stool? I love backless stools because they can be tucked in completely for less clutter. It is even fun to paint the stools a bold color.

My friends Jake and Wendi just bought their first house, and I was so excited for them. Wendi has wanted some red bar stools since she moved in, but I know firsthand that it is hard to furnish a new home. I moved into my home 6 months ago, and we are still slowly trying to furnish it.

So, I found some backless bar stools to refinish for her as a surprise. She ultimately wants to put some bar stools with backs up to her bar because she has young children, but those cost a TON of mula. So, I figured that backless stools would work as an alternative while they save up for the others.

I found these beauties….I’m sure you’ve seen them. The plain, blah old, oak colored stools. Craigslist is littered with these stools.
A little coat of primer and paint (CHERRY RED KRYLON BRAND) turns them from Blab to FAB!
Here they are in her gorgeous kitchen.

I think this is a good concept to adopt. If you can’t afford exactly what you want…which to me happens A LOT…then find an affordable alternative until you can save up for the others. So, when Wendi is ready to buy her fancy shmancy backed bar stools, she can sell these to help pay for them.

  1. super cute in the red! i agree about barstools. i had some cheaper ones i spray painted black. after 5 years i got the fancy ones i really wanted. and the cheap ones? off to craig's list.

  2. Just last week I was telling Mark that I want red bar stools! He looked at me like I was crazy and said, "But they won't match our table!" He said the same thing after I suggested we at least paint them white. SIGH…..The man needs a decorating video game. Then maybe he'd be more into it.

  3. So those are my barstools that Brooke surprised me with for Christmas and I absolutely love them. They look so shiny and new and they bring out all the fun red in my house and whenever I have anyone over I get tons of compliments. Everytime we sit in them we think of how sweet Brooke and Dan are. Red is my very favorite color! Thank you so much Brooke for making my house a HOME! U RULE! Wendi

  4. How big of a deal is it to repaint things like this. I would love to do this now, but in a few years I would like to redo my kitchen and change the colors. Can I just paint over it again?

  5. What a great blog! I found you through your projects featured on Better After (which I'm in AWE of) and I'm wondering how I haven't been here before. Needless to say, I'm following you now, so I won't miss anymore. I could spend all day here!

  6. I've been wanting to do this with those exact same bar stools, but I've been worried that the black paint would just rub off on people's clothes. Do I need some kind of top coat?
