No Sew Pillows...

I attempted my first project in almost 2 months last Friday. I had a few really good days last week even one where I went and spent some time with Brooke and our friend Jo. It was good to get out of the house and see the sunshine. Maybe I am on the up and out of this dark hole of nauseated hell. I'm not going to lie..I'm ready!! Soooo ready. Thanks again for all the well wishes and advice. So now that you've had an update on me and baby Dalley let's get back to this project of mine.
Yep...you read right NO SEW PILLOWS. Isn't that awesome??!! So for all you non-sewing people out there here is your chance to rock the pillow making world too. Now there is no excuse to not be making your own. ;)
I found this fabric along with a few others the other day and LOVED it. Once again the family room is seeing change.

Ok, so to get started I followed Brooke's directions on her how to make a pillow post. Which you can go to here. Instead of a sewing machine you will need hemming tape. I bought the Heat n' Bond brand. It got the best reviews online.

I don't have a  measuring board and a Olfa cutter so, I have to do things the old fashion way and make my own pattern and use good old fashioned scissors. I took a piece of news paper and measured an 18x18 inch square. I then cut it out and pinned it to my fabric like so.

I then cut around the newspaper to get my square of fabric for the front of the pillow.
Brooke and I like the option of washing our pillow covers. So the back of our pillows over lap the fabric giving you a pocket for your pillow. The insert looks like this when you are finished.

To get the back 2 panels I used my existing pattern and measured 13 inches up on the sides. I then drew a line across and folded it over on the line.

So my 2 panels for the back measure 13x18 instead of 18x18. I then pinned the pattern and cut out 2 panels at this size.

The next the step is to make your first hem with the bonding tape. So take 1 of your 2 back panels and lay it on the floor. You need to make a hem along the top so it won't fray. Get your hemming tape out and measure it from end to end of your fabric.

Then fold the fabric over the hemming tape and pin it in place.

Follow the directions on the Heat n' Bond for the temperature of your iron. I then ironed the hem allowing the iron to sit about 5 seconds on that spot before moving to the next area.

Repeat that process on the second panel for the back. When you are done your hem should look like this

Now that you have both sides of the back hemmed you can put the pillow together to hem the whole thing. So take your 18x18 inch square and lay it on the floor with the right side facing towards you.

Next step measure your hemming tape all the way around the 18x18 fabric

Then take your two 13x18 pieces and lay them face down on top. You will need to put a strip of hemming tape on the section where both your back panels overlap each other also. When you are done with the hemming tape you can pin it all in place.

You then iron around the whole pillow. Make sure you let your iron sit a little longer where the fabric over laps and is thicker. Let it sit for a minute to cool down. Then flip it so it's right side out and iron your seams again. Stuff your pillow in there and you should have a pillow that looks like this....

If you can't tell I got a bit carried away and made a few pillows ;) {what can I say...I was feeling good}
I also made this little black silk pillow for my bed. It has some crystal tassels along the edge to dress it up.

All 6 of these pillows are No Sew Pillows...and I can't wait to make more. For my family room pillows I have a few ideas on how to dress them up and can't wait to show you my ideas.

So are you ready to try a pillow on your own?? Now that there is no sewing involved??

UPDATE: I bought this fabric at JoAnn's. It is a canvas material so make sure that you look in the canvas section.

LOVE your pillows and I'm really surprised at how they turned out being no sew! You have great timing on this post too because I have been meaning to make some new pillow covers for the last week and haven't done them yet, you've inspired me! I think I'll do them today!!! Thanks!

Glad to hear that you are feeling a little better too!

Awesome tutorial!
Any way you can tell me what fabric you used? That blue and green would go great in my house!
Thanks!

I would LOVE to know where you got that fabric and what kind it is. There is a fabric similar to that at IKEA, but it one that only comes as a couch cover. Anyways, those colors are pretty much perfect from my bedroom and I've been having a hard time finding something that's just right.

Thank you!

LOVE this!! Do you think you could add trim (like tassel kind) to the no sew pillows? Do you think that would work? I'd love to try some and do them with some sort of trim.

I see you added some to the black pillow... how did you do that??

Thanks!

Those pillows look fantastic. I don't mind sewing, but it's good to have an option for when I don't want to pull the machine out. I also like the fabrics you used. That pin tuck fabric is awesome.
