Feature Friday…

Brooke and I thought it would be fun to start a Feature Friday post. This is where we will feature one of our readers projects that they tackled. We thought it would be fun to share their ideas and maybe motivate you to send us pictures of your projects. We LOVE seeing them!! We have had some great pictures sent to us lately. This Master bedroom make over comes from Kelly Nordfelt. She purchased the entire bedroom set for $375 dollars. She then took on the huge project of refinishing it. Trust me you are going to like what she did. So here is the {BEFORE} picture of all the furniture….
{You can click on the pictures and they will go bigger.}
I thought she got a pretty good deal for all the pieces she got.
So here is the {AFTER} picture
Isn’t it GREAT??!! It really is amazing what a little paint can do. So go find yourself something to paint and send us your picture of the finished result. Send your pictures to  allthingsthrifty@gmail.com. Hope you have a GREAT weekend!!
Love,
 Kallie and Brooke

  1. WOW! Those pieces are great! I had to go back and look at the "befores" again because I couldn't believe the difference. Great job lady!

I also just recently finished my master bedroom makeover– I got the nightstands off of craigslist too (both for $60), painted them, and then the rest is explained here:

I'm a new follower of your blog and l.o.v.e it, by the way! I refinish a lot too and your site is such a great resource and is motivating me to maybe try and start selling my projects… so thanks!

  2. The new hardware on the dressers really make a big difference! I like the accent wall paint, curtains, and black framed photos as well. Hmmmm….. I need to redo my bedrooms.

  3. I love that you posted this!! Let me tell you all what I did.

I found the bedroom set on Ksl.com. It was high quality maple and I saw potential written all over it. The drawers are dove-tailed. Very nice.

All I did to it was paint the entire thing with black Valspar brand spray paint. I did a few coats. I have since learned that you don't need the expensive spray paint if you are going to put a finish on it.

When the paint dried, I took a fine grit sandpaper and roughed up the edges. Then over the next day I applied three coats of polyurethane with a rag-per directions on can. (I did all of these things to my jewelry box as well so it would match and picture frames so they would match.)

The trickiest part of the project was finding hardware. I needed to buy 36 pieces in four different sizes. I went online to myknobs.com and found them.

As for the colors, I found a model home that had these colors in their master bedroom and copied it.

I found the blue pillows I wanted at TJ Maxx. Then I took those pillows into Lowe's and matched the paint for my accent wall. I found the curtains at Shopko where they often have BOGO free on their curtains. The zebra pillow ($6) is from ROSS. The mirror was from Ross as well($45).

It was quite a process-but worth it. I saved at least a $500 from not buying new furniture and doing it myself.

  4. It all looks amazing…I can't believe all of that furniture for that price! I had to do a double take on the before pictures, it looks totally different and again amazing!

  5. It turned out amazing and looks so completely different. Excellent. Today I start on painting my desk and moving the entire area around. I am so happy I found this blog a few weeks ago. It really inspires me.

  6. did you sand all the furniture first before spray painting??

i have a set in the garage i need to redo for my daughters room.

how many cans of spraypaint did you use and what were all the pieces that you did??

    it looks great!

  7. I love the idea of Feature Friday. I redid my bathroom over the christmas break. For the longest time I couldn't figure out what to do, but when I saw the office makeover with the blue paint and the leaf stencils I was sold. I loved the stencils that you used and since I couldn't find any that I like I hand made them using the wax paper and painters tape idea. I just wanted to say thanks soo much for the great idea, you can look at my blog to see the outcome! thankyou again!!
