Frumpy-be-gone Today!

I get to get my hair done today, and I am so excited. YIPEEEEE!

Do you ever feel frumpy? That is how I feel right now. Getting a fresh, new cut and spunky, new color makes me feel instantly better. 🙂

I am getting bigger by the minute with this pregnancy! I am not one of those tiny, ever so cute pregnant women. I’m not just sayin’ that. I know, and it’s ok. I’ve come to terms with it long before my fourth kid. 🙂

I have to admit though that this pregnancy has been a bit harder than the others, and I have a few weird things going on. I recently got diagnosed with pregnancy induced carpal tunnel. WHAT is that, you say?!?! It basically means that my hands fall asleep like crazy, and they send these weird shocks up my arms all day. I wake up a few times every night (not an exaggeration) because my hands are both numb up to my elbows. It is super annoying. I need to get some braces to wear at night, but I haven’t made it to the store yet.

Plus, I have this horrible hernia in my belly button. It comes out at random times and if it won’t go back in, then I feel like I’m going to throw up. The pain is unbearable. The dr. is monitoring this darn thing and says I will definitely need surgery to fix it after the baby comes.

Having a baby is so much fun…so I am focusing on that part! Only about 10 weeks left! I can’t believe it! I am having a boy, for those that may not have caught that in previous posts. Fun huh! My kids are out of this world excited too!

Have any of you had similar symptoms with your pregnancies? If so, was there anything that helped you?

  1. I've never been pregnant haha so sorry no help. Hope you feel better and congrats on the boy! No offense, but I hope my pregnancies are a little better haha. Sounds painful

  2. I am sure you look just beautiful! I remember feeling frumpy during my pregnancies.. especially during that awkward time when I wasn't showing yet, but I was still gaining and not fitting into my clothes. I cant say I had any of the symptoms you are having, but I feel for ya. Pregnancy does some weird things to the body. Hang in there! 🙂

  4. I still have carpal tunnel, and please do yourself a favor and get those braces!! They will take a couple of nights to get used to, but well worth it! I seriously couldn't get any sleep without them!

  5. I had the carpal tunnel with my second kiddo. It really is not fun to be woken up in the middle of the night with that pain in your arm. The brace is worth it. Buy it today! It improves the symptoms fast.

  7. When I had pregnancy induced carpal tunnel, my sister told me to stop eating sugar. Amazingly, my symptoms went away once I did. During each of my three pregnancies (and while nursing with two of the kids), every time I would eat even a little sugar (sometimes as little as a sweet piece of fruit, other times as little as a fun sized candy bar), I'd be unable to even close my hands all the way. I've talked to doctors, my chiropractor, and other medical people, and no one can tell me why the no-sugar thing worked, but it costs nothing, and was so worth it. It took 2 or 3 days for it to initially work (had to get all that sugar out of my system), but I was able to go back to doing all of my normal activities. Hope this helps!

  8. A 1/2 cup of fresh (NOT canned) pineapple every day (until symptoms are alleviated is really helpful for regular carpal tunnel. I understand that the enzymes in fresh pineapple help to lubricate the tendons in your wrists so that they move smoothly. I always just took a slice off the bottom of the pineapple each day, leaving the rest of it in it's 'original package' on a plate in the fridge.

  9. OK so I thought I was the only one that had carpal tunnel while being pregnant with my twins. Try nursing two babies with numb hands! Not a pretty site. I also developed a huge hernia during my pregnancy and I can't tell you which is worse because they were both so painful. Hang in there because it will all go away once the baby gets here. Congratulations!!!

  10. Awwww, I hope you feel better. Ihave one child. I had the most uneventful pregnancy (thank GOD) and I vowed to not mess up my record, so I didn't have anymore…
    Good Luck!

  11. Try icing your wrists. I too had that with my first pregnancy. Didn't come back until my period did, post baby. Then I had surgery. BUT the ice did help with the pain, esp at night.

  12. Someone gave me a pedicure as a baby shower gift. She said, "This way the first time you see your toes again they will be beautiful." I was feeling especially frumpy about a week before I was due so I went for a pedicure. It was wonderful and I felt beautiful! I got so many comments from the nurses during the delivery too! If I have a second, I'll treat myself to a pedicure right before I'm due.

  13. I had carpal tunnel when I was pregnant too. It is no fun AT ALL. I feel your pain, I'm sorry you're so uncomfortable! Getting un-pregnant in 10 weeks will help a ton!! 😉

Good call on the new hair do, it is a great pick-me-up!

  14. I TOO had that pregnancy induced carpal tunnel with my fourth!! I didn't know the name for it though and just complained! The pregnancies get harder and harder. I kept saying it was my age, but everyone laughed at me cause I was having my fourth baby at 26. Good luck; hang in there!!

  15. Pregnancy carpel tunnel is THE WORST! But, at least for me, it went away immediately after delivery. Hang in there!

  16. I had never heard of the pregnancy induced carpal tunnel, but it explains a lot about why i had all the issues and then they went away! We are due about the same time, though. Mine's a boy too. My third. This pregnancy thing gets harder and harder with each one, I think. Good luck and I hope you find some relief.

  17. Brooke I had the stupid carpal tunnel with Mitch and I just wanted to cut my hands off!!! It started around 35 weeks and lasted about 2 months after he was born. There were times I was afraid I was going to drop him when picking him up! I was told it is just extra fluid my body was holding onto, so I needed to drink over 100oz of water a day and it would help to flush out the fluid and release the pressure. So I guess the only advice I can give you is to increase your fluid intake and see if that helps.

  18. i have the carpal tunnel with pregnancy, too. the wrist braces help. so does taking vitamin B12 which helps with nerves and circulation supposedly. I am sorry about the hernia, how crazy! good luck. I just had my 4th child and it was for sure my hardest pregnancy, but it is all a distant memory now because I have the cutest baby to play with every day! it is worth it!

  19. I have been following your blog for sometime. I had pregnancy carpel tunnel too. It was so bad. I stopped sewing. I am a seamstress. Anything that took intense handwork I stopped doing because it made it worse. It also got worse the closer I got to my due date. I hate to discourage you but I was told it would go away after birth, but it didn't. It took at least six months after I gave birth for my hands and arms to be normal. Good luck. The only advice I have is to slow down. Don't do a lot of things that require your hands. (Yes, I know motherhood is all about your hands. Again, good luck.)

  20. ginger helps nausea. Whether I felt like it or not, I'd eat a ginger cookie and sure enough….it helped.

Sorry about the carpal tunnel, I have it from a job and I know what a pain it is. But you are so right on about focusing on the positive!

  21. Congratulations! I've been following your blog for about 6 weeks, and I've got my daughter addicted to it as well! I haven't posted before but I just wanted to say that I have 4 myself and I had those awful things happen with the last one – I loved having them, and I would have liked to have just the last week and the birth and skip the nine months, lol. Its great that you are focusing on the positive and sharing that with us!

You have inspired us to complete all kinds of projects. My 19 yo daughter (the one addicted to your site) is coming home from college next week and is planning to paint her room and do some rearranging. My youngest, who is 13, just sewed (with help) some very funky curtains and painted (by herself) a bedside table. I will send you her pictures when she is done with her room.

Sending good thoughts your way… ~Lori

  22. I am so sorry about the carpal tunnel. I had it with both pregnancies. To forewarn you, it may not go away until several weeks after delivery. That was the experience that I, and one of my friends, had. It was not as bad the second time. I think it was due to my chiropractic visits. You may want to try that. It is also supposed to help with ease of delivery.

  23. I had carpal tunnel with all three of my kids. It is soooo annoying. I wore a brace for the first two, but it never really helped that much. It all went away a few days after delivery. So sorry you have to deal with that.

  24. I didn't have carpal tunnel, but had sciatica with 2nd and 3rd pregnancies. Try the steps those ladies who've had it suggest – you never know what will help. And take it easy when you can. You are going to be one busy Mom when your baby arrives. I had far more "aches" and "pains" with my 3rd son than I did with first two – including varicose veins in places nobody ever told me you could have them LOL! Still, try to enjoy every minute because it all goes so, so, so, so fast!

  25. I'm due in 6 weeks with my 3rd and was just told by the doctor today that it's normal to have constant pains shooting up and down my uterus (not contractions) because since it's my 3rd kid, my uterus is basically overworked. Really? Great, so I constant pain for the next 6 weeks is to be expected?! I wanted like 5 or 6 kids, but I don't know if I can bear this again and again. My first 2 pregnancies were totally easy so I didn't expect things to be so different this time around.

    But, yes, yea for babies!

Oh, and I'm having a boy too!

  26. I have NEVER had those symptoms sorry! That's crazy! Good luck. I do understand however the whole not being a small cute pregnant woman. I am pregnant with our 2nd and have not come to terms with that yet. I gained about 60lbs with my first. I didn't even show for forever and then all the sudden BAM! I was huge, my face was swollen, my legs so swollen you couldn't even see my ankles. My leg basically looked like a tree stump with no signs of a knee or ankle, it was disgusting. But still I think I would take that over a hernia in my belly button and carpal tunnel that numbed my entire arm. So sorry you are dealing with those things, again good luck! Hang in there you are almost there!

  27. I had carpel tunnel too, & the thing that worked for me was lying to my doctor about how bad it was, because he was threatening to legaly stop me from driving! What cheek!!

  28. I gained 61 pounds with my son! I don't recall that I had carpel tunnel while I was pregnant – I think I was just too fat to notice…but my legs were like watermelons. I could squish my finger in and it would leave a huge dent. I DID however develop bad carpel tunnel after I delivered. I remember I'd be breastfeeding my son and the way I had to support him and my boob made my whole arm go numb. It was pretty terrible…but then as I lost the weight it went away.

  29. Fill up your kitchen sink with ice cold water, also add a bunch of ice in it and soak your entire forearms, from your elbows down. After do some wrist stretches, circles, & massage. It only takes about 5 minutes, but I had to do this daily & it worked wonders for me! Good luck, you're amazing!

I was just introduced to your blog 3 days ago and I haven't been able to sleep cuz I'm up thinking about all the fun projects I wanna do! Thanks for the inspiration!

  30. i had a belly button hernia while pregnant with my twins. it did not go away after the pregnancy. it was the weirdest pain and was so uncomfortable. i finally got it fixed after the twins were about two years old. the doc said it would be an easy one day recovery but MAN did it hurt! i was in pain for about a week after the surgery! (sorry i dont mean to scare you) i wish the doctor would have told me that it was going to be painful, i felt like such a wimp and im usually not one to complain. i also didn't expect to need so much help afterward so i didn't make the proper arrangement for the twins and ended up having to be in a lot of pain and taking care of them at the same. GOOD Luck! i hope everything goes well.

  31. I had my fourth baby 2 months ago. Little boy! Fourth pregnancy is a killer! I never had a name for the carpal tunnel thing, so now I do. It is miserable! Hang in there. Looks like you have some good suggestions to try. But you will be so happy to have that sweet little boy here. Mine wasn't even little (9 lbs 13 oz!), but still so super sweet and worth every bit of misery. It just isn't easy to see that before they get here. Good luck!

  32. I am so sorry for your carpal tunnel syndrome…I had that with my pregnancies and it was very painful. I have a mild case of it without pregnancy but when pregnant, my hand would sometimes go numb while buttering a piece of toast or holding a fork. I did try the braces at my doctor's suggestion and they were very uncomfortable and they did not help, either. Just letting you know before you spend money on them. They made it just as hard to sleep because they were uncomfortable and my wrists still went numb in the night. Good Luck! I never found a solution to the carpal tunnel thing.

  33. It sounds like maybe a circulation problem, My hands feel asleep with my last baby a lot too, but I just owned it up to that. If you can stomach cayenne pills, those will help a lot with circulation. Good luck with your last ten weeks, so exciting!
