Progress with the electrical sign!

After we got the electrical sign, we brought it home and took off the front panel. It needed some clean-up and re-wiring. Good thing I happen to know the handiest man around, huh!?! My husband Dan had everything fixed in a jiffy. 🙂 old electric sign old electric signNext, we called in a favor from our saweeeeet neighbor Rob to come help lift the bad boy! {Thanks Rob!} The boys had a hard time finding studs because of the faux brick wood paneling that we installed, and hanging this heavy sign was a little more challenging than normal.

At this point, all we needed to buy were 10687 light bulbs. Ha ha just kidding. But, we did need 54 light bulbs, and I wanted the clear light bulbs so that it would look vintage-y. BUT, the clear vintage light bulbs ARE PRICEY! Bummer. They are honestly like $7.00 each! Darn. So, we just bought clear regular light bulbs, but they had to be low in wattage.
Here is my hubby Dan {who is the mastermind behind this entire project}. He was the one who contacted the sign company, and followed up for weeks so we could buy this fun piece of folk art!

He also WIRED the bad boy right to our light switch!! That way the sign will only be on when we want it to be on! I know, I know, you were thinking, that is going to cost a FORTUNE in electricity. Nope, it will not be on most of the time!old electric sign
Do you like our lone “H”!?!? Ha ha. The sign guy gave us this letter so that we could know the correct size to fit in the sign for future reference. Now, all I need to find {or to make} are some letters to get this party started!
I wish you could see this in person because the lights trace around! I might have to upload a video so that you can see how fun it looks! old electric movie theatre sign

I can now honestly say that I finally love what is going on on our plant shelf!! 🙂 Using old items as folk art is a really fun way to make your home unique, colorful and fun! Doesn’t it just make you want to snuggle up on the couch and watch a movie with popcorn!?! All I need are some letters to announce what is playing!
Speaking of movies…I CANNOT wait for the Hungar Games movie. I am headed to the midnight movie tomorrow night!!

  2. Dan…. find me one. I must have one. Please. You don't have to wire or carry it, other than over to my house.

  3. I love this!!! YOu are freaking amazing… I wish I had your brain so I could think of all your ideas first! I admire you.. Your blog is the first I look at everyday! Fantastic!!

  4. I seriously think this is one of the coolest things I have ever seen in a house. I love, love, love it. Love the brick wall, the sign, everything. Way to go on a scoring a super cool sign. I can't think of anything I would love more. It looks fantastic. Can't wait to see it with letters.

  5. Sooo jealous of this find!! I could totally see myself doing this, and my sister, who has a very subdued style rolling her eyes. She always expects me to do something with neon! This is so much cooler, like neon, but way more customizable. Also doing the midnight showing of the Hunger Games on Thursday, You're my kind of crazy girl.

  6. This looks fantastic! I love quirky, funky "art" in my home as well. It's just so much better than most crap out there. =)

I have a plant shelf that runs the length of my living room. I hate it…I'm not putting real plants up there because I could never water them. I won't put fake ones up because they'd get dusty. Such a weird space! It's only about 12-15" from the ceiling, too, so not much space.

  7. Um, yeah, so this is the coolest thing I have seen in a LONG time. So awesome!!

    Total SCORE!
Hope you find some letters soon (or figure out a way to make some).

  9. Hi there just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in your post seem to be running off the
screen in Firefox. I’m not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with web browser compatibility but I thought I’d post to let you know.

The layout look great though! Hope you get
    the problem fixed soon. Kudos
