Girl’s room ideas {Makeover reveal #1}

girls room1 with textI’ve been working on my girls’ room for six months. Okay that’s a lie. I’ve been working on it for over a year. {Shhhh, don’t t tell them that this isn’t normal}. They are used to living a disheveled life with their mattresses on the floor. When we moved in to our new house three years ago, I had just bought bunk beds. Well, the girls’ room has angled ceilings, and we couldn’t use the beds stacked. I sold them in February or March because the room is the biggest bedroom in the house besides the Master Bedroom, and I decided that it was better spacial planning to have full-size beds instead of twins. I made that decision and as a result I had to wait to finish the room until I could afford to buy another full mattress. Baby steps are ok sometimes, right?

So until recently, the girls thought it was the coolest thing ever that their mattresses were on the floor. After all It was fun to play gymnastics on them.
Now their full-size mattresses are perfect for the space. The room started out with a dot theme, and has stayed the same from the get go.  I am really excited to show you a partial reveal today of what I’ve been working on! I say “partial” reveal, because you are going to LOVE what we do next, but I couldn’t wait to show you what we’ve done so far!

I wish I had better before pictures, but since my computer died it is hard to find all of my old photos right now.

We started out by painting the ceiling white, and it made a HUGE difference. It brightened up the room immediately! Then we painted the walls turquoise blue {the same color as my entryway}.

Then Dan and I built these cute headboards {don’t worry, a tutorial will be coming soon!}.

I’m in love with how they turned out!
The fabric is an Annie Selke fabric, and I bought it in Vegas at Home Fabrics and Rugs about a year ago.

And then the bedding hunt began. I love the thrill of the hunt. I debated on the bedding {ahem for weeks, because I have commitment issues}, and I just couldn’t spend $100-$150 /each. Plus I wanted white originally, but I decided that the first permanent marker stain would cause an anxiety attack. SO, I ended up using their old ruffly bedding from Target folded at the end of the beds because it was really cute with the new color scheme. Then, I got the light blue quilts at Kohls on major sale. The small pillows, lamps and night stands were bought at HomeGoods on clearance. girls bedding

I’m really excited to show you the rest of the reveal, but it could take me six more months to complete.
{Ok, just kidding, give me two weeks and I promise it will be done!} After all, this week is pumpkin week at our house. If you don’t know what that means, check out our pumpkins from 2011 and pumpkins from 2010. We are a little obsessed with Halloween.

  1. Gorgeous room and wall color.
Would you mind disclosing the name of your paint color and brand? My daughter wants a turquoise room as well, and we a few picked out but I need more options. lol..
    Thanks,
    Jackie

  2. Super cute!! I like it better than the dots! Really light and girly! This color scheme is almost the same as the one I am using to redo my daughters room. How fun! Can't wait to see what is next!

  3. Thank you ladies!! Jackie Hale, we actually mixed two colors of paint together, but it is almost identical to Sherwin Williams Slick Blue. 🙂

  4. Love the headboards – both the fabric choice and the fact that you made them high to occupy some of that tall angled wall space – great idea!

  5. What a darling room for the girls to mature in! Blue and Pink!!! I love all of your projects…tell Dan hi, we went to high school together.

  6. Beatiful room, and lucky girls!
I know how it is trying to "finish" a room….still working on my 8 month old sons nursery! Maybe I will be done by the time he is ready for a "big boy room" and then I can start over again! 🙂

  7. Lucky girls! Their room is amazing! I have always been a fan of that color combination and you did it brilliantly! I am following now so I don't miss the final reveal.
