Baby Name Hoop Art

Hi there! It’s Rachel from Like a Saturday with you here today! 🙂

Since I was here last, my life has been flipped upside down in the very best of ways! My husband and I have been in the process to adopt for the last several months. Last month we got a surprise call from our agency letting us know that we had been chosen as parents, our daughter had been born, and then 24 hours later we got to meet her!

It has been a crazy whirlwind, but we are so enjoying it! Now that we know our sweet girl, I’ve started working on some projects to decorate the nursery {and girl-ify it, of course!}.

I have loved putting her name on everything {hello, monogram!} so I thought it would be fun to create personalized hoop art for the baby’s room. This is great for any kid’s room and can easily be customized for a boy or girl, or to match the room decor.

Baby Name Hoop

To make your own name hoop art, you’ll need an oversized embroidery hoop {I used a 14″ hoop}, fabric, felt and embroidery floss in a variety of colors, scissors and a hot glue gun.

Baby Name Hoop

Before you get started, iron your fabric to get rid of any wrinkles. Once the fabric is looking good and wrinkle-free, pull it tightly on the embroidery hoop.

Baby Name HoopI printed off and cut out letters in the size I needed to serve as a template. I pinned the template to a piece of felt and cut out the letters.

Baby Name HoopOnce I had my letters cut out, I eyeballed the placement on the fabric. I used a couple dabs of hot glue on each letter to secure them onto the hoop.

Baby Name HoopThe next step is stitching on the name. If you have glued the letters on, this is really more for looks than anything else. I just used a simple running stitch along the edges. If you want to try something a bit fancier, there are a ton of stitch tutorials online. It doesn’t have to be perfect! In fact, the imperfect-ness adds to the charm.

Baby Name HoopWhen you have completed stitching on the name, it’s time to have some fun with felt embellishments! I chose to add rolled felt flowers. You could cut any variety of felt shapes to add; like kites, balloons, or animals. I attached the flowers and leaves with hot glue.

Baby Name HoopAll that’s left to do is trimming the fabric, folding it over and gluing it to the back side of the hoop. I added a ribbon to the top of the hoop to hang on a hook on the door.

Baby Name HoopYou could hang it alone or in a grouping for a gallery wall. It is a special custom piece for any child’s room! You could also do you last name or initial and use it as a wreath on your front door. So many possibilities!

Baby Name HoopI’d love for you to come visit me at my place!

  1. Ahhhh congratulations!! Thanks for sharing a bit of your story and this uber cute project. I think I am going to have to bust one out for my 7 year old daughter….think mine will have to incorporate some felted tree branches for my little tree climber. Thanks again!!
