Blush, Yellow, Navy Living Room Space at SNAP for Rustoleum

Bear with me friends. I have to document something that I got to do. I sometimes forget that my blog started out being a “journal” of projects, and I can’t ever let that stop! I have to write this down. I have to document it, and I NEED to take the time to journal my favorite blog opportunity/collaboration to date! I hope you don’t mind! This post is not sponsored. I was not asked to write it. I just wanted to share.

Remember that one time when I got to design Rust-Oleum’s sponsorship area at SNAP conference?  That was so. much. fun! I’m still kinda freaking out about it. It was such an honor that they asked me. I’m very grateful for all of those that helped me with this project too. {especially my Husband Dan and my BFF Jo.} The space took months to put together. I worked long nights and lost many hours of sleep over this.

The first thing I designed was a huge wall partition. One side was an artwork display, and the other was a photo booth. The picture below shows the artwork display. FRIENDS! Most of those artwork pieces are SPRAY PAINT ART made by yours truly! I cannot wait to show you how I made the CACTI picture!!! My BFF Jo said that I found my new calling in life, spray paint artwork. HAHA.

You may be wondering, what in the world is SNAP Conference, anyway, well, I won’t go into a huge in-depth description, but it’s a blog conference held in Salt Lake City every year in April where 550 bloggers get together to learn about blogging. We take classes about social media and organization. We attend hands-on workshops. We meet sponsors, and we even have a little fun while we’re at it. My Mom came up to see the space and she said something like, “I’m not even sure what SNAP even is!” So for those who are like my Mom, I thought I’d give a little bit more of an explanation.

The Rust-Oleum clan asked me to design a space using three words: Refresh, Revamp, and Recharge. Plus they asked me to use their 4 new colors: BLUSH, NAVY, TUSCAN SUN {which is a mustardy yellow}, and SMOKY BEIGE.

We brought some furniture from home since I only live about 4 hours away, and furniture rentals were u.g.l.y. when I looked into it.  The navy blue couch is a West Elm couch. It was definitely a shining star of the space and everyone LOVED it. It was funny to see the facial expressions when I said it was actually out of my master bedroom. 🙂

Plus it’s super comfy and soft with it’s velvet fabric.

The rest of the furniture was acquired in the few weeks leading up to the conference. The coffee table was only $12 from D.I. which is Utah’s version of Goodwill for those that aren’t from around these parts. I painted the bottom with Rust-Oleum’s mirrored spray gold and I used frosted glass spray on the top. TIP: The only thing I forgot to do was turn the glass over so that the frosted glass product was not on the top. So if you do this project make sure your decorations are not rubbing on the frosted glass product. Turn that glass over so that the surface is smooth and the frosted glass is protected. **This was my bad**.

Lulu and Georgia Rug

The end table was a thrift store find for $25 and I sprayed it with Chalked Paint Country Gray SPRAY PAINT. Yep, you read that correctly, Rust-Oleum now has SPRAY PAINT CHALKED PAINT. It’s a dream guys. I LOVED it so much I kinda wanted to snuggle with it.

To the left of the couch was a charging station for everyone’s phones. That’s what the cords are that are coming out of the little crate.

The beautiful rug is from Lulu & Georgia and I love how well it tied all of the new Rust-Oleum colors together.

The throw pillows are from IKEA and Target. The flamingo pillow was my fave! The blush macrame pillow, and the Oh Happy Day pillow were two other fave pillows.

The IKEA pillow covers were super affordable and stylish too: The pillow with the blue horizontal line was the SOMMAR cover along with the blue and white stripes.

The plant is from Home Depot, and the pot is from HomeGoods.

We built the shelves ourselves with plumbing pipe and flanges and 2×12 inch pine boards {tutorial coming soon}, and we sprayed the pipes with Tuscan Sun spray paint to add a little pizzaz to the shelves.

I added thrift store books, spray-painted thrifted decor accessories and items from Homegoods and Target to the shelves for decor.

For the artwork display side of the wall, we painted the thrift-store chairs with spray paint, and we used Rust-Oleum’s Gold PEEL COAT product to add temporary gold stripes to the glass jars. I wish more people knew about the peel coat jars! It was so easy to apply, and it’s totally temporary. The stripes came RIGHT OFF afterwards.

I bought the map from JoAnn {it was a roll of decorative craft paper} and the coral deer print was a thrift store find {I painted the frame}, but the rest are 1 of a kind artwork projects I made myself. I used my Silhouette to make them. {Tutorial coming soon!}

I had the arrows cut from this ETSY shop {it’s one of my faves}, and we painted the arrows with all sorts of Rustoleum products. We used vinyl and my trusty Silhouette CAMEO to help with some of the designs.

My good friends from SWIG {a Utah based drink and cookie shop} came and served drinks from our fun lemonade stand!

For the entire weekend, we could have free refills! It was so great!

I loved the comment afterwards on the SNAP Facebook page that someone said, “I’m having a hard time adjusting to no SWIG refills all day.” 😉 AMEN Sista, AMEN.

I hope you can see how hard we worked on the space and how much love and sweat went into creating a comfortable place for people to “refresh, revamp, and recharge.”  We even put a bowl of mints out for everyone in case they needed to freshen their breath. Heaven knows we all needed them.

Thank you for letting me show you! It was such an honor, and I won’t lie I slept for an entire day when I got home to try and catch up from how much work it was. But, hard work never killed anyone, in fact it felt good in hindsight!

If you were at SNAP, I hope you liked the space. If you weren’t I hope you enjoyed hearing about it and looking at the pics.

xoxo,

Brooke

  1. Girl, I was super impressed with the booth before, but I’m so glad you posted this because I had NO idea you had transformed just about everything. I bow down to your creative genius!

  2. I love the space! I am looking forward to your tutorial on the spraypaint art! I just redid my guestroom and the cactus print would be a perfect addition! I haven’t tried the spray chalkpaint, but that cute side table has me itching to try it!
