Lasagna My Most Popular Recipe Ever.

I cannot believe I have never posted this recipe. In my defense, when I make my lasagna, I usually make three huge pans at a time, so whenever I thought about writing down the recipe, I always talked myself out of it because it’s hard to nail down the actual measurements of the ingredients.

But, out of any meal that I make, this is by far the most popular one in my skill set. It’s not just a regular lasagna recipe guys, I promise it’s super good. I don’t want to tell you it’s better than your or your grandmother’s because I can’t guarantee a claim so strong, but I can tell you that a lot of people have switched to this recipe after they have had this recipe.

In fact, I asked my son Creed this morning what his favorite dinner was…his answer, “Lasagna.”

I have been asked to make this for a friend for his birthday as his gift from his wife too. I thought that was so cute of her by the way, and I was honored.  Also, before I get into the recipe, I usually make homemade rolls when I make lasagna too, and this roll recipe my absolute favorite because you can make them from start to finish in less than ONE HOUR!

naturally lit 7-layer Italian classic

My friends and neighbors always love my lasagna. I tend to take it to friends and family who have babies, and it seriously is so good, and they always ask me for the recipe, and I tell them the brands of stuff I use, but that I don’t actually have the recipe written down. BUT GUESS WHAT!?!!? I’m writing down the recipe folks! I am so proud of myself, and I legit measured so that I could make one pan last weekend.

LASAGNA MY MOST POPULAR RECIPE EVER

Prep Time 30 minutes
Cook Time 45 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle Prego Three Cheese Italian Tomato Sauce
  • 1 lb hamburger
  • 1 box lasagna noodles boiled per the package directions
  • 2 cups Cottage Cheese {I use 2% Darigold brand from Costco}
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Brown and drain your hamburger. {I use the lean hamburger from Costco.} I also sprinkle garlic salt on the hamburger while I brown it.

  2. Add 1 bottle Prego Three cheese tomato sauce to the browned meat. Then, add about 1/2 cup of water to the bottle and shake it to get the remaining tomato sauce from it and pour into the hamburger. Simmer the sauce for a few minutes until the remainder of your ingredients are ready.

  3. Make your cheese mixture: 1 cup moz cheese, cottage cheese, eggs, 1 tsp garlic powder, and 1/2 cup parmesan cheese.

  4. After your noodles are boiled and drained, rinse them with cool water.
  5. Layer the bottom of the pan with 1/2 cup sauce mixture.
  6. Add a layer of lasagna noodles
  7. Add about 1/2 cup of cheese mixture and spread it the best you can across the noodles.
  8. Sprinkle the layer with moz cheese and repeat.
  9. When you finish, your top layer should be a layer of noodles and a thin layer of the sauce and top it generously with the remaining mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese.

  10. Cook on 375 until it is hot and bubbly. I think I cooked it for about 40 minutes last time.
  11. And, here’s a hint. It’s better the second day!

Recipe Notes

If you want to make three pans like I do at a time, here is what that recipe looks like:

2 lbs ground beef browned, drained and seasoned with garlic salt

Prego {three cheese marinara} 3 bottles (mix with beef, I add a little bit of water to the bottles after I pour the sauce out to get the remaining sauce)

Cheese mixture:

48 ounces cottage cheese 2% fat (I buy the big one at Costco)

3 large eggs

2 tbsp garlic powder

1 cup parm cheese (shredded) really I just grab a handful

4 cupish mozzarella cheese shredded {divided}

Mix the cottage cheese, parm cheese, and eggs add 2 cups moz cheese.

Boil 2-3 packages of lasagna noodles (per package instructions)

Layer sauce, noodles, cheese mixture, sauce, noodles, cheese mixture…etc until two 9×13 deep pans are full. Then top generously with moz cheese and any remaining parm cheese if you have any.

(I use disposable deep pans.)

Cover with tin foil and bake 375 degrees for approx 30 min or until it bubbles and cheese is melted on top.

Here is the sauce that I mentioned above… Prego Three cheese Tomato sauce !

It looks like this:

three cheese prego

**I use probably 1/2 c sauce and 1/2 c cheese mixture in each layer. It’s not much but I just spread it around as evenly as possible. I probably do 5-6 layers of noodles in both pans. They are really heavy when they get done.

Well, there you have it! I hope you enjoy this yummy recipe as much as me and my family do!

  1. Sounds delicious. I haven’t been boiling my noodles in years. There is enough water in it to cook it, as long as you keep it covered.

    1. I’ve heard, this, but it’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks. I love the way mine turns out. One of these days I will be brave and try it!

  2. Do they freeze well after you’ve put them together? I would to put a couple of them in my freezer to just pull out for dinner!

  3. 5 stars
Sounds very close to mine… but I add cream cheese to my cottage cheese mixture. It adds that little bit of extra yumminess!
PS- I wish I was prepping to go to Lake Powell!!
