I have THE. BEST. recipe for fish.  It’s pretty intense, so prepare yourself.

Step 1: Go to Costco.

Step 2: Buy this box of tortilla crusted tilapia:



Step 3: Follow the instructions.

I know my friends came to this post thinking it was a joke. Well they were partly right.

I do cook at times, but I’m not one to slave in the kitchen all day to put a delicious meal on the table. In fact, I’m usually the Mom that forgets about dinner until 5:05pm. <—-sad but true.

But, in all reality, MY KIDS LOVE THIS STUFF.  They eat it like crazy and they do not complain one minute about eating “Fish.” In fact, all of my kids have said, “I like fish” after I make this tortilla crusted tilapia. I have bought it at least 5 times and they scarf it down each time.

I had to share this discovery because for you it may not be a big deal to get your kids to eat fish, but this is HUGE for us.



P.S. I know this is not really a “recipe” I was totally kidding up there ^.

    Very interesting! My kids all say they “hate” fish. This looks good, but unfortunately we don’t have a Costco, so not sure if I’d be able to find it anywhere.

    This made me laugh. I had a friend that always brought chocolate chip cookies to get togethers. Someone always asked for the recipe and she’d give directions to Sams Club and to the cooler section to find the bucket of chocolate chip cookie dough.

    Kimberly J: That’s funny! I’ll have to do that if anyone ever asks me for a recipe since everything I cook comes from a box.
    Kelley: No Costco here, either. We have had the Garlic & Herb fish from Gorton’s (or something like that — the box has a guy in a yellow raincoat). It’s in the freezer section at Walmart, and our kids like it.

    Well, this is going to sound rantish, but here goes.
    I don’t understand why FISH is so daunting to so many people. Even though I grew up in the midwest, I ate fish all the time growing up, and love fish. Now i am on an island in Asia, and raising two kids who adore fish. What’s the key? Make it natural. At 1 year of age, both kids lived off of a VERY easy rice/fish porridge we made, and developed an acceptance for all things natural, veggie, and fishy. It’s not hard. If you feed yourself and them good food, you won’t have to “hide” fish under layers of spices or breading. We happily eat fish every day, just broiled, pan-fried or whatever.

    I think one of the keys is abrogating the US-food industry promoted-crap processed foods. Your kids don’t need anything the US food industry wants you to buy. Baby food? Unnecessary, it can be easily made at home by mushing up natural ingredients. Don’t be swayed by commercials. If your kids don’t watch much TV, they won’t think think that packaged “lunchables” are good–if they eat real fruit/bread/cheese/pasta/rice/ etc from an early age, processed stuff holds no value, as well it should. My kids would never ask for a “fruit rollup” like I did when I was a kid, because they have no idea what processed fruit is and the idea of eating it hasn’t been drummed into their heads by TV.

    See, i told you it was a rant. But it is great that your kids eat fish. Work on just pan=frying a fish without breading, then just broiling it. They will get there, and it will be worth it!

      Costco sells a fish called Spanish Mackerel (I’m translating the name from a local Taiwanese name, so I’m not sure if that is the name…but they sell it at my local Costco). It’s great, and sold in steaks. Just lightly salt it and plop in in the pan on some oil, then flip it.
