Beauty Movement : Baring my Bare Face.

I am Brave and Beautiful – a beauty movement that is sweeping the globe. Colbie Caillat started it with her recent song and video called TRY. My blogging friend Megan of Brassy Apple wanted to push this movement along and invited women from all over to share what they looked like without make up and I joined in!! Colbie’s song says, “Take your make up off. Let your hair down… Look into the mirror at yourself, Do you like you? Cause I like you… “

Megan and her friend Cobi of Peacefrom6pieces have been the team behind this whole project. Their worldwide vision included creating their own video inspired by the song TRY. The talent of Robbins Creative made it possible for them to pull it off. You have to click play and see the beauty and bravery displayed and you might even recognize a few faces in there.

Me along with 101+ other blogging women from different backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, ages, shapes and sizes have decided to be Brave and Beautiful! You can join in this movement too by sharing what you look like without makeup on. You don’t need a blog either! Just tag your photo with #IamBraveAndBeautiful on Instgram and search the hashtag to see who else has joined in. ALSO, if you tag it with a second hashtag – #ColbieTRY we just might be able to get Colbie Caillat’s attention since she was the inspiration behind it all!

Are you brave and beautiful? I am, here I go!

When I was a kid, I was extremely self conscious because I wasn’t the naturally “skinny minny” that I felt surrounded by. And at times I wonder if anything has changed. I feel it creep up on me even today as an adult. I have grown a lot over the last few years, and I know that those self-conscious thoughts are a snare built by only one person, Satan. I am a religious person, and I truly believe that Satan tries every single day to make us believe that we aren’t good enough.  After all, misery loves company. But, God only wants us to be happy. I love this quote:

Being-happy

Are you happy? I have reflected on that question deeply over the last year. I’ve noticed that life can get out of control quickly.  For me the number one thing that I know is that in order to be happy I need to feel close to my Father in Heaven and feel his guidance in my life.  I know that my Father in Heaven loves each and every one of us. If I can’t feel Him in my life, then I know I am too busy and need to adjust. I am a better mom, a better wife, a better neighbor, and I am so much happier when I am listening to the guidance of my Father in Heaven.  That doesn’t mean that I don’t make mistakes, and every so often I have a pretty rough wake-up call, but I am trying to keep my priorities in the right place.

So, what do you think!?! Do you want to be a light in this dark world we live in? I do, so that’s why I agreed to be a part of such a cool cause.

Sharing my bare face was really hard for me. I’m not going to lie. I feel self conscious without makeup on, and since I have had eyelash extensions for the last couple of years, I haven’t seen my bare face for awhile. {Sad but true}. I took them off for this campaign. I wanted to participate 100%, so I had them removed.  It was a shock to look in the mirror without those dark, long lashes. I’ve been thinking about them for awhile and I’ve worried that my daughters will think they need fake lashes to feel beautiful, and they are already BEAUTIFUL!

I am trying to embrace my natural face! Join us and help us redefine beauty.

  1. I love this so much! I wasn’t ever a natural skinny mini either. I still feel self conscious over the dumb things kids said to me in 6th grade! I mean, hello?! Can’t I just get over that already? You are seriously a babe in both pictures! You have the most infectious smile and the greatest attitude. I just adore you and am happy to call you a friend!

  2. What makes you beautiful is your infectious laugh, that you encourage the best in other people, that you are a good listener, great friend and that you live a real life of imperfection and flaws and that you are okay with it. I love the way you love your husband and talk about him. I love that your kids drive you crazy and life gets hectic and overwhelming at times but you still love fiercely. I love that you still smile and still see your life is worth living because you were created by God for such a time as this to be the woman you are for those around you. Have a great day beautiful Brooke!

  3. I know what you mean! I often worry about the message I send to my girls about make-up. I am not sure what message I want them to get, so it’s hard to know how to respond when they ask about it! I think I will share my post from this project with them, and maybe some of the others as well.

  4. This was so touching Brooke. You are one of the most beautiful women I know! Not just because of your outside but because you are so real and sincere. I struggle with some of the same insecurities and don’t know that they will ever go away. We really need to hang out more!

  5. I know exactly how you feel. Why do we need to be so hard on ourselves? Why do we compare ourselves to others? It’s so hard. But I know Heavenly Father loves me for who I am on the inside. He looks on my heart and knows that’s where the beauty is. Same with everyone else! This was so beautiful, thanks for sharing!

  6. I stopped wearing makeup a few years ago when I was so time-crunched in the mornings that it stopped being important. It’s completely liberating. I watch women trying to put their mascara on at traffic lights and wonder who they’re putting it on for.

  7. You look beautiful in both! I don’t know why we as women but ourselves down so much. Thank you for posting the picture.

  8. Wow,,you guys ARE brave and you’re even MORE beautiful! This is a big deal and I am standing up applauding you for it!

  9. Way to go Brooke! I love all of what you said, but especially about what impression we are giving our beautiful daughters about what beautiful means. You are beautiful and wonderful and super fun.

  10. Brooke, you are beautiful. You shine from the inside out with or without makeup, with or without lashes. I’ve seen the “Try” music video plus similar efforts through other organizations. I almost always think the woman looks prettier withOUT the makeup. So why can’t I feel that way about my own face? I rarely let non-family members see me with a totally bare face. It’s silly. Thank you. xo

  11. I adore how REAL you are, and btw i love the new look (not sure when it was new – it’s been while since I’ve gotten to read the blogs I love) and I love this quote, it’s so true, being happy is a huge success!

  12. This is such a neat thing you are doing. What a pretty lady you are…inside and out! I feel very lucky to have such a brave and beautiful sis-in-law. Love you Brooke

  13. Aw you made me cry!!!! thank you for joining in! thank you for sharing pieces of your heart. Im touched that you went as far as having your eyelash extensions removed – wow!!! thank you…… xoxo
