Bathroom Makeover from Yucky Tan to Bright and Airy

This post and giveaway are sponsored by GE REVEAL®.

In case you have missed the last three weeks, let me bring you up to speed. My friends at GE invited me to four #100reveal challenges. So far I have changed the ceiling in our bedroom by adding a geometric design with dowels, I have doodled on our dining room chairs, and I updated our living room to be more “lovely” with roman shades.

The Rules:

1. Spend $100 or less at Walmart to update a room.

2. Use GE reveal® light bulbs.

Seems easy enough, right? Holy moly, spending only $100 has been a BIG challenge but it has been sooo fun.

It was time to tackle our tan bathroom…check it out!

I can honestly say that I’ve been in Walmart more in the last 4 weeks than I care to admit. I was searching for inspiration for the bathroom, and as I walked the fabric aisle for the third time this week, I happened upon this Waverly fabric . I might have done a jig in the aisle. You guys! It is perfect. It’s colorful and bright, and I needed something to pull together all the colors in the color wheel since I’m addicted to color. Good fabric designs can be hard to find and to find something like this at Walmart was truly a godsend.

Look at all of those colors!

Our bathroom was yucky. Well yucky to me means TAN. Eeeeew.  And guess what? It is our MAIN bathroom, ya, know, the one that visitors use when they come.  Decorating it was on my “list” but we just hadn’t gotten there in the last five years of home ownership.

My cute hubby said it perfectly yesterday when he said, “I actually like this bathroom now. It finally feels like the rest of our house.” I agree wholeheartedly.

I sewed a custom shower curtain with the Waverly fabric discussed above, and painted the walls with a color called “tranquility.” Walmart was able to color match it with a color swatch. I only needed one gallon of paint since the room is so small. The fabric was only $3.97 a yard and I only needed 4 yards.

I bought the towels, and some cute storage bins to liven up the shelves, and the rest of the decorative accessories were rearranged from other rooms in my house. The wire storage bins were only $9.97 each! I was pumped. They are a BHG product and I found them near the laundry baskets. The yellow and white bin was in the Easter section. 🙂  I tied the towels with an extra piece of fabric and hooked the backs with a safety pin. I’m super legit like that.

The art above the toilet is special to us since my mother in law painted it.

Isn’t it perfect with the new paint color!?!

And the shower curtain and artwork are a perfect pair. The GE reveal® light bulbs make the colors true and bright.

The difference in the lighting this time was absolutely incredible. I took this picture right at dusk. Look at the difference between the colors.

I took this one after dark, and the yellowy color wasn’t as obvious from this angle, but it was definitely noticeable. GE Reveal Light Bulb makeover 5

I wanted to show you the lighting compared to natural light also. The GE reveal® light is definitely close. Natural light will always win, but the sun doesn’t stay up 24 hours a day, so the next best thing is definitely the GE reveal® light bulbs. GE Reveal Light Bulb makeover 6

Look at the difference in the shelving accessories. Crazy.

In an effort to elongate the room, I raised the shower curtain almost 18 inches above the shower enclosure. It’s amazing how much taller the room seems now. It definitely showcases the 9 foot ceilings. A standard shower curtain is usually 72 inches tall, and this one is nearly 90″.

I added a few finishing touches {and shopped my own house to do so} and now the room feels cohesive with the rest of our colorful house!
