$20 Hutch Makeover

Hey guys, Fancy Farmgirls Here!

It’s been a year since painting the home office and we love it as much as day one!

We reached out to you on Instagram debating between the ever popular BM Hale Navy and BM Blue Note

(Hale Navy on the left,  Blue Note on the right)

BM Blue Note

In the end Blue Note won with its green and gray muted undertones .

You guys are opinionated about your paint colors and so are we! The post at the time was one of our most commented on posts on  Instagram

So we wanted to share with you another proven blue winner.

BM Cheating Heart

The perfect deep charcoal blue.

(excuse the blurry pics, our camera was on the blitz)  🙁

It all started with this $20 thrift store hutch.

I started by removing all hardware and the shelves. I sanded it lightly with my orbital sander.

We moved the hardware by filling in the previous holes and relocating new brass knobs.

Elmer's® Carpenter's® Natural Interior Wood Filler 3.25 oz. Tube

I went with the wood filler in the tube vs. the tubs they sale it in.  The tubs dry out after a couple of uses.

It adds the perfect amount of contrast in this otherwise light bright space.

This piece would work great in a bathroom with baskets full of white towels and all the toiletries hid down below,

or I think it would be super cute in a boys bedroom as well.

So add BM Cheating Heart to your portfolio of colors to try.

A couple of pieces from the past that got the blue treatment.

This secretary hutch was painted in a mix of 2/3rds SW Seaworthy and 1/3rd BM Hale Navy

And Our entryway dresser is Rustoleums Chalked Deep Navy

We love light and bright spaces but contrast is its best friend.  Hopefully you can find a few here to get you started.

  1. Do you ever regret painting over that beautiful wood? I have a similar cabinet that I inherited from my grandma and I just can’t paint over that beautiful wood grain.

  2. Excellent. You paid so little for an impressive makeover. I wonder what they would say if they saw it now. Millie at frugaliciouschick.blogspot.com

  3. I would love to do this, but once I have my antique piece I just cannot pain it. Maybe I need to buy something a little newer. I honestly love the way your decor is.
