The Miracles come pouring in Dream House Update Part 2

If you haven’t read Part 1 of this story, go back and start there first. šŸ™‚

We walked through the house and it got better and better as we explored. I cried in the truck on the way home.

Here’s a sneak peek:

The house has a chicken coop, an orchard, and a workshop in the back that will fit our boat. I was completely in love. But in order to make it happen a LOT of things had to fall into place so I was on guard. I went home, ran all the numbers and it was still pretty impossible.

Miracle 8: The sellers said they would remove real estate fees if we bought the house. This amount was the difference between making the dream into a reality. I remember thinking “If I don’t try I will regret it.” And then in that instant I also understood why people sell their houses. It felt right, and when something is right, it FEELS right. Even if it doesn’t make sense at the moment. So, we got our house up for sale as quick as we could. We had a few massive projects happening at the time, like a booth for Rust-Oleum at Haven conference, and a complete bathroom remodel too! So, as soon as we had the projects completed in lightning speed, we put the house up for sale on August 11. The first day of school.

Everyone said, “Your house will sell so fast!” and “It will FLY off the market.”

Miracle 9: We went to the temple to pray about the new house. When we got to the temple, the ward we would live in at the new house was there that night for ward temple night. Ummmm coincidence? You decide. We both felt good about the new house, and got a pre-approval for the financing directly after. But we still had to sell our house first to make it work.

Miracle 10. The owners accepted our offer and we went under contract contingent on our house selling first.

Miracle 11: We got a bunch of delays, and our house didn’t sell. We had never sold a house. We didn’t know what we were doing , and we made a bunch of mistakes right off the bat. We listed our home after school started. Which apparently is a bad mistake. The housing market slows way down after school starts because families try and settle into schools at the first of the year. Duh, right!?! Well, we missed family buyers by a few months, and a lot of the lookers were retired and my house isn’t ideal for them because we have stairs.  But, I kept telling myself “If it’s meant to be it will work out.” But like my friend Sheri said, THAT’s EASIER SAID THAN DONE! Yep.

We have been showing our house like crazy for nearly 90 days. The kids are on edge because they had to keep it clean. I was a wreck because keeping a house ready to show at all times is horrible. It’s been a rough three months. But our contract was getting closer and closer to the deadline, and I was getting nervous.

Miracle 12 & 13:   We went on a GNO dinner with a bunch of friends and my friend Wendi (the same friend who wanted my house in miracle #5) was there that night. She said that her neighbor wanted to buy her house for a rental property. So she jokingly said something to the effect of “Now I should buy Brooke’s house!” I was thinking. Ummmm yes you should! Another thought I had was,  if he is serious, you wouldn’t have to pay real estate fees OR show your house. Which is HUGE!

Then the bomb dropped. Another person was interested in our dream home. They told the owners they would buy it now. So that’s why Miracle number 10 is so important. Thank heavens we got a contract in writing. Because otherwise, nothing would have been able to stop that from happening.

Miracle 14: As our deadline grew closer, I kept thinking about Wendi. Dan even made comments to me that he thought Wendi and Jake were supposed to buy our house from the get-go. But, as her friend I didn’t want to stress her out with her new job and her master’s degree classes. But, the deadline was coming quick, so my friend Jo told me to call Wendi to explain the predicament we were in. If Jo wouldn’t have given me a little push, I’m not sure if I would have called … I didn’t want Wendi to feel pressure from us. I just kept thinking, if it was right, it would have happened before now. But I knew I needed to try.

I called Wendi and told her the predicament. I told her about the deadline, the new buyers for the other house, and that she should at least come and see it one more time and then I would leave her alone after that! HAHA. She said that Jake wasn’t sure about our house, but that she would try. I also told her to find out if her neighbor would seriously buy her house. She needed to find out if that was a possibility.

Miracle 15: Wendi found out that her neighbor was serious about buying their home. I was ecstatic for them, but they still needed to negotiate a price.

Miracle 16:  Wendi is almost finished with her Master’s degree and will finish in the next week or so. Which if you remember miracle number 5, you will see this significance.

Miracle 17: Wendi got a new job that paid more money. Added bonus to buying a new home with a higher payment that she was worried about {like we ALL are when we are increasing our monthly expenses.

Miracle 18: Sunday morning I was stressed to the max. I felt like I needed to tell my kids to prepare themselves for disappointment. We only had 7 days left until our contract expired {at least this is what we thought.} So my kids decided to fast and pray that our house would sell. So we fasted and prayed as a family that our house would sell. We even had a few friends fast for us that day. I got this text message while I was sitting in church on Sunday, and I started sobbing like a baby.

He’s kidding about the BYU football team…well kinda. šŸ™‚
