Fall Decorating Tour Part 1 {Garage cleaning}

We cleaned our garage this weekend. Are you thinking, “Why do I care if they clean out their garage?” Well, when we clean out our garage, we take loads to our storage unit, and when we go to our storage unit, we get our holiday bins. When we get our holiday bins out of storage, I can FINALLY decorate for fall and Halloween!

For this portion of our living room, I only used a few items from the bins. Of course, right? Honestly, I’m the type of decorator that doesn’t push it. I know this isn’t the best example, but I think about decorating like potty training a child. If I push them before they are ready, it’s a disaster, and it takes twice as long to complete the potty-training process. If I wait until they are ready, it goes smoothly and easily. Am I right, or am I right?

I’m finicky with decorating motivation, but I think I know why. It has been Fall according to the definition of the calendar year, but it hasn’t felt like Fall until well, TODAY to be completely honest. I’ve felt a tiny tinge of coldness here and there, but it’s been short-lived, and soon after another week in the 90’s followed.

I’m sick of the heat. I’m ready for crisp, cool weather. I might eat my words, but my hair is too long for this freakin’ heat. It’s like I’m carrying an extra blanket across my back. You guys. It’s the truth, and my husband thinks I’m kidding when I say that. Can I get an AMEN?!? I can’t take it anymore. I was ready to chop off the hair blanket over 2 months ago. I’m hanging on to the idea that I may be acting a bit dramatic about it.

Ok, before I keep going and going and going about my distaste on the un-cold, I better just stop myself. I guess I’m feeling a bit spastic tonight and maybe even a bit sassy.

The USA map is always a huge hit and if you are interested in a similar map, a good friend of mine sells one for us in her ETSY shop that is very similar. In fact, she gives a discount by using the code “allthingsthrifty1.”

Costco flowers are on sale, and to be honest, the flowers are what motivated me to decorate! I bought the bundles of flowers because I thought that they would look so great in my new pumpkin dish

I used the same dish to serve our white bean chili last week. It’s so darn cute and it only cost me $15ish.fall decor with corn tassles and pumpkins

The dried wheat-looking plants are actually corn tassles! I went into a corn field to cut some tassels for a wreath {tutorial HERE}, and I had some left over, so I put them in a white vase and voila, the whole spot looks fallish.

I put a few fall colored books, and turned the ones around that weren’t the right color for the season.

And of course, this pumpkin-loving gal had to add a few fresh pumpkins to the mix.

So, I guess I’m announcing that I successfully potty trained our black hutch? Man it went smooth.

Hope you had a great weekend.

xoxo,

Brook

  1. I really love the contrast between the furniture and the pumpkin. And that rustic map is just the topping. It looks inspiring as a whole and taken individually. Great work.

  2. I love your desk! Where on earth did you find such a beautiful piece? Your decor style is so simple yet stunning!
