West Coastal Style Master Bedroom Makeover

This post is sponsored by the Home Depot. All opinions are 100% mine.

I am so excited to bring you today’s post! It’s been a long time coming and was such a fun project! I know you guys have met my bestie Jo {remember her house renovation? We did her front room, her living room and her kitchen!}  And recently, thanks to The Home Depot’s online inventory {which is amazing} we updated her master bedroom!  It turned out so good you guys!

Typically when you think of coastal, you go to the beach right? Seashells, light blues, sail boats…. basically a beach house! Not anymore! The West Coastal vibe is now full of vibrant dark colors, lots of plants, and tons of wood tones. It’s beautiful and I am kinda obsessed with it these days! I had never decorated a room with this vibe so it was fun coming up with ideas and making a plan! Here is what we started with:

Pretty much the perfect blank slate!!!

Jo’s hubby can be a tough nut to crack when it comes to decor so my first goal was to make sure he was on board. šŸ˜‰ And after seeing our inspiration board, he was IN! This space ended up pulling just enough masculinity but not too much which in the end made everyone happy!

To start,  we installed ship lap and it turned out beautiful! {Hopefully we’ll have a tutorial for you soon!} We had our local Home Depot rip three boards of simple under-layment to 8″ wide and the color we used was Durango Blue by Behr. We used large Popsicle sticks as spacers but had to go back and paint the spaces because you could still see the wall.  All in all, the whole wall cost us less than $100 and took us about a two days start to finish with painting!! I call that a success!

Next up was the barn door. Quick back story, the master bathroom door was on there but they had taken it off because of how it swung into the bathroom. It was just annoying and would always try to swing shut so we decided a barn door was the perfect solution!

Before we installed it, we did have to add a simple piece of primed 6″ MDF board just above the bathroom door. This was to make sure the door was mounted on studs. After that, the installation was a breeze. We also ended up adding the handle so that dirty little fingers wouldn’t be opening the bathroom door.

After these two simple additions to the room were done, it was literally time to decorate and isn’t that just the absolute BEST part?! The coolest thing about this whole procss is that we were able to pick-out everything online and then have it shipped right to her front door, and shipping is FREE! {And did you know that The Home Depot can send you LIVE PLANTS???? #mindblown They arrived beautifully too I might add.}

Ok…. here we go! Drum roll please…… And be prepared for picture overload. I just needed to make sure you saw every single angle! Ha! Note: At the end of the post, I have linked pretty much EVERYTHING we used so hopefully that helps.

This bedding was “a bed in a bag” and came with a few throw pillows and a blanket. It was pretty fantastic actually!

I love nothing more than a perfectly placed area rug!

Isn’t that barn door just dreamy?! It is perfect.

So what do you think? Are you as in love as I am?! I wonder if Ben and Jo would notice if I moved in for a bit?! šŸ˜‰ My absolute favorite thing about this whole space though is that headboard. It is what dreams are made of. I kinda wish you could see it in person because it is just so so cool! It makes this whole room just perfect! And how about the plants?! The two on the floor were shipped and are awesome!

Here’s one last reminder about the space: BEFORE

And AFTER: And here are the links I promised:

  1. It looks really awesome! Some really great choices made it all come together nicely. Sadly, I can’t spend $3000 to do it for my own bedroom. But I’m happy for your friends to upgrade to such an awesome room. šŸ™‚

  2. OH my GOODNESS. Will Ben care if we ALL move in?? He’s cool with that, yeah? Looks real, real good my friends.
